Use your own domain

Your site always has its …trybailey.app address. But you can also put it behind a domain you own, like www.myshop.com. It takes three steps and one DNS record.

The three steps

Open your project → Settings → Custom domain.

1. Add your domain. Click Add domain and type it in (for example www.myshop.com). It appears in the list as pending, not live yet.

2. Add one DNS record. Bailey shows you exactly what to enter at your domain provider (the company you bought the domain from: OVH, Gandi, GoDaddy, Cloudflare…). It’s a single CNAME record:

   Save it at your provider. DNS changes can take a few minutes to a few hours to spread.

3. Verify. Back in Bailey, click Verify. Once Bailey can see your record pointing the right way, the domain flips to live and the secure padlock (HTTPS) is set up automatically. Nothing else to do.

”It says pending / not verified”

That almost always means the DNS record hasn’t taken effect yet, or there’s a small typo. Bailey tells you what it currently sees so you can compare. Wait a few minutes and click Verify again; there’s no penalty for retrying.

Root domains (myshop.com without the www)

DNS doesn’t allow a CNAME directly on the bare root domain. For the root, use your provider’s ALIAS / ANAME option instead — Bailey shows that record and verifies it by the address it resolves to, so it goes live just like a CNAME. If your provider offers neither, point www.myshop.com and let it redirect the root. Bailey flags the right record for you when it applies.

Two domains? Pick a primary

If you connect more than one domain to the same site (for example monsite.com and www.monsite.com), you can choose which one is the primary address — and, optionally, send visitors of the others to it.

1. Verify both domains (each needs its own DNS record, as above).

2. Make one primary. Next to a verified domain, click Make primary. It gets a Primary badge. This is the address you want people to see in the URL bar.

3. Turn on redirect (optional). Switch on Redirect to primary. Now anyone landing on one of your other domains is sent to the primary one, keeping the exact page and query. Leave it off and every domain simply shows the same site (no redirect).

Example

Primary = www.monsite.com, redirect on → someone opening monsite.com/pricing is sent to www.monsite.com/pricing. Your …trybailey.app address is never redirected — it always reaches your site directly.

Removing a domain

Each domain has a Remove option (with a confirmation). Your site stays reachable at its …trybailey.app address; that one never goes away. Removing the primary domain simply clears the primary (and turns redirect off) — nothing is left pointing at a domain that’s gone.

For developers

Verification proves the domain routes to us: for a sub-domain, a live CNAME lookup ending in your sites domain; for a root domain (where DNS forbids a CNAME), an A/AAAA match — the ALIAS/ANAME is flattened to address records by the provider, invisible as an ALIAS but resolving to the platform ingress. HTTPS is issued on-demand (ACME) only after a domain is verified, which doubles as abuse protection. The verified domain is mirrored into the site manifest so serving and the TLS gate cost zero database calls on the hot path. See the Security model.
